Dude got lucky.

That guy is just clueless he wouldn't know a good story if it was sitting on his face.

Looks like he got his bar stuck in a section of the stump that tore free and caught his bar. Seems like an honest mistake, just that he probably wished it didn't happen on TV, LOL. I still like to laugh at it though, LOL.

Especially the slow motion part, LOL.

I think this actually reveals a rather interesting notion. While equipment can make things easier and be used to your advantage, it can really change the dynamics as well. I'd say more than 9 times out of 10 I'd rather be on my own than be "helped" by some piece of equipment. In this example, the fellow may have actually been able to read the bucking cut and known that the root wad was going to settle like that.

But yeah, sucks for him its on TV. Course, the ignorant masses may think it was bad ass.

Yeah, I've cut acres of blown over timber like that tree and never had anything like that happen. I've had the rootballs flip back, but thats normal, kinda fun to ride them, but I think either the boom operator was pulling on the log and it tore free, leaving his bar stuck in the stump or something of that nature. We grab them with a grapple skidder a lot, but we don't pull on them, just a little lift.

Another theory, is he got pinched and they pulled it loose with the grapple and again his bar was stuck in a part of the kerf that stayed with the stump, but either way, I just can help but laugh out loud when i watch it, its too funny. It looks just like a guy when he gets jerked down onto a bull's head.

Good stuff, and since nothing more than his pride was hurt, I thank him for the laughs.

I looked closer between laughs, and you can see the little fiber pull where his saw got stuck into. He's got a Stihl grip, LOL.

I'm guessing with my powers of intuition, that he cut most of the log and got it ready and then yelled to the reporter,"Okay start talking and I'll finish it."

Boy the news reporter got more than he bargained for, LOL, so did we.

My gut reaction was to say "what a dumbass" out loud, but hey, that's just me. It looked like he was hanging onto that saw for dear life.

If the reporter had taken stand just few feet behind when the root ball sat back... That'd been a scoop!
