Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

Our deer season ended Sunday. We went from hunters driving back and forth, to no traffic yesterday. And there was an obvious last chance push last weekend. The store I take firewood to is closed now, they close with the end of deer season. They give a free cheeseburger to hunters that come by and show their tagged deer, they like to keep track of how the season is going. It was a very successful season compared to normal, I talked to a lot of hunters that got a deer. Hunters actually thinned out early because the season went so well. Hunters that are normally there all season stopped coming up. It’s still bear season. But they can’t use dogs anymore, so more bears are killed by deer hunters now anyway. Some deer hunters will get a bear tag too.

The days of dropping trees are now over for the Husky 2100 in my roster (unless it's an emergency) since dad passed away 3 years ago. He was only the 2nd owner of the saw when he got it back in the 80's. He hadn't used it much, and I pulled out out of storage around 2009 and began using it again, didn't ask dad about it but in the end he didn't mind as long as it was being taken care of. Have had a few offers to buy it but I won't sell it. Other than dealing with the big stuff it has has gone racing and it did take 1st quite a few times. Another member here had a mildly modded 2101 I often had to face off against and for a stock saw it could either keep pace or beat it. The 288XP and 046/460 mishmash saw are the primary felling saws now.

Theres two rows 36'x4'x16" sugar maple and the remaining to be cut is white birch black and white ash more sugar maple and a bit of ironwood.
Hoping for 13 face cord when I'm done which wood get me a good start for 2026-2027 after I restock the shed next fall
Feels good to be 2 years ahead and have well seasoned firewood

Thanx for sharing the pics.. Me like um heep big scrounge too. I will still add to my scrounge periodically, but with much less hustle..

Welcome to the scrounging thread buddy! Nice looking stack, but be prepared, many of the guys who frequent this thread scoff at the face cord system faster than the metric system.

Havent been on the scrounge thread for awhile now
I've taken heat on the site before for using metric its ok I have tough skin and can laugh it off. I've learned both standard and metric systems growing up so can use either
