Hi Eagle, I thought you said that you changed bars between cuts. I worked with a guy in the woods who had a similar accident years ago. He was cutting firewood on the landing with a Husky 2100 with a 28" bar. The shovel was holding about a 3' old growth fir buckskin up off the ground for him so he couldn't really see over the other side. The idea was to lop the rounds off into the back of his pickup. His saw ran out of gas and he grabbed another 2100 with a 32" bar and stuck it into the cut with the throttle wide open. You guessed it, the short bar didn't make it all the way through the log and the longer bar tip hit the other side and kicked back. He was holding the saw at about shoulder level so he didn't have enough leverage to keep it from coming back over the top and it caught him in the face. This poor guy was a shovel runny and not used to bucking good sized timber. Luckily he got his hand up and he didn't lose an eye and there was a mechanic there to get him to the hospital before he bled out. He must have missed a couple of months while they reconstructed his hand and when he got back to work an ornery hooktender nicknamed him "scarface". So much for trying to take a shortcut, tuff way to learn about bar length though.
