Check this video out. The Basswood was 11" wide X 14" tall, so I think it safe to say it was 144 sq. inches. The chain was 72CL off the square grinder.

Yeah Gypo, We like it. Who wouldnt. Thats one fast 346.
You must be running Nitro, LOL.

Hunter

Heck sakes Gypo Logger my old husky 55 will cut that fast. Try some of that carlton chain and you might pick up a little speed. haha Fred

Hi Hunter, no nitro, just 35:1 Castrol and premium pump gas. Ken sent me the high compression oil cap, so that's why it cuts so well.
HJ, I just found a loop of Carlton A1 and tickled it on the Silvey, so will try it tomorrow. I noticed that the A1 doesnt have as square of an edge as the Oregon LG or Stihl RS. Lets trade some chain sometime Fred and we will see who the woodtick really is ok? LOL

Hey Woodticks, check out this puppy. 29"circ Basswood =9.23" dia. = 67.95 sq".
Isn't the upcut 1 sec? And if it is, why wouldn't it be? After all, I was using a KD385 worksaw and a 16" Art Martin chain.
I suppose most of you guys want to speedbag me too, and why wouldn't you?
John

Same chain from Art, but running on the 346KD worksaw.
This is about as good as having fun with those two Japanese twins, Fookyu and Fookme .
John

Why must you torment me I havn't even put my hands on my 346 yet and you're making me want to send it off for some tweaking :p

Gypo,
Another great showing of saws and skill.
Make sure susie doesnt find out about the twins.
What do you charge for a race chain?
Hunter

rocky- if you are running the 8 pin on a saw that size, does it bog down if it looses its head of steam? And how about in bigger wood? My understanding (quite possibly faulty) was that you had to have bigger cubes to back up the higher chain speed.

Isn't 11 times 14 still 154 in Canada?

Maybe I'm using the wrong exchange rate.:p

Hi Todd that's metric. LOL
Here's the 385 KD with a never used 72CL straight of the grinder. The Basswood was 16" x 13", using a 20" bar and 8 tooth sprocket.
John

Here's the KD346 with my chain which is 72CL off the Silvey using the brown stone. The wood is 29" circ. using a 13" bar and 7 tooth sprocket.
John

Two seconds slower on the second chain, with much better transition from cut to cut. 20lp could be faster,
if done right. Jon

John is not running .325 chain on the 346 , it is 3/8's chain and a 7 pin 3/8 is pretty close to the same size as 8 pin .325 but the 3/8's chain is alot faster when filed correct for that saw
