I was wondering if any of you working up North have a Kelly Kettle. It's an awesome piece of kit and can make two and a half pints of boiling water in five minutes in any kind of weather conditions. Windy conditions make it boil faster. You don't even need a match to light it. Mine have become a little obsolete since moving to Texas.

It was originally designed for using in rough seas on Irish fishing boats, but is an invaluable tool if out in the woods. All you need is a few leaves, bit of sawdust, a couple of twigs, a piece of fire steel. and everyone has a fresh hot drink in five min no matter whether you are in the middle of a blizzard or not.

You light your fire in the tray at the bottom (you need the smallest ammount of tinder) unplug the cork from the spout so it doesn't explode, then drop the odd twig or leaves down the chimney in the top and the water that is contained within the walls heats very quickly due to the large surface area inside of the kettle. If you have no water you can pack it with snow. if you're stranded in the woods it's a life saver.

I have never seen one TTK, it looks neat. I don't know about hauling one around the woods though. To me it is something I would keep at the truck then get stranded away from the truck and make due with my knife.

It's light as a feather, all aluminum and is only for when the weather is extreme cold, wind rain, snow, and you are out in the sticks. Really it's more of a survival tool but it beats the hell out of a thermos flask. It's when it's windy and wet it really proves invaluable. You can pack other stuff inside too like your tool kit etc.

too true, they are great, i have one in the truck , brill for a fresh hot cuppa on a cold day or if the weather turns and you are soaked, also they make a nicer cup of tea then an ordinary kettle,i also use it when we go pigeon shooting as we are in the hide for maybe 10 hrs ! so worth their weight in gold,

I had a feeling if anyone else had one they would be from Ireland you have to experience them to fully appreciate their worth. We've made tea right inside it before too. I've only see one person in Texas drink a good ole British cuppa but they made it in the cup and didn't have milk in it:confused:. I'm looking forward to coming back in the summer. Two weeks of Fish & Chips, curry, Mcvities chocolate digestives, Bourbon creams, and a whole lot of ale served at the right temperature. I've been two years without any of these things. I'm going stir crazy man!

Good job I've still got tea, & single malt!

Americans drink coffee. Black as night, thick as mud, the stronger the better.

We drink tea when we're sick. (For some reason, tea tastes better than coffee when our throats are coated with snot).

We don't put milk in our coffee and we sure as heck aren't going to put it in our tea. Rum yes. Schnapps yes. Milk, no.

:givebeer: (or coffee)

;)

have you ever had a mug of good Irish tea ? served properly you could
1. use it to tar a road
2. march 100 miles on one mug
3. march 100 miles , do a hard days work and march home again on 2 mugs with a little suger.
or option 4. drink 3 mugs and piss like a racehorse for an hour !

This is about the point where somebody starts singing "Yankee Doodle" and somebody else starts singing " God Save the Queen".:greenchainsaw:

Seriously,
My dad was Air Force, and I had the pleasure of spending three of my early teenage years in England. Here are a few things I remember....
The Fish & Chips we would get at the corner shop, were by far the best I have ever eaten.

There is something about tea in England. Very tasty ( even with milk ). I believe they buy all the best tea leaves and we get the "seconds" here in the US.

If you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes and it will be raining again.

Cornwall Shepherds Pie...Mmmmmmmmmm

2 Seasons...Wet and Wetter!

I enjoyed spending time in London more than any other large city I have visited. Paris was my least favorite.

Americans should never think that people in the UK hate us. It is more like two brothers.... the younger one keeps doing things that embarrass the older one. The younger one keeps thinking he is just as good as his older brother at everything. The older brother keeps trying to treat the younger like he is still a baby. And just like brothers....pick on one of them, and you will have to fight both of them!

Cherrio,
Rick

You were pretty close to Devon in Cornwall the closest to God portion of Fish and Chips (huge pound and a half pieces of flaky Cod or Haddock) at a place called the START BAY INN in Torcross Devon.

Praise the tea, Holy drink of Awesomeness

Exactly the biggest myth of all that just gets fueled by haters that exist everywhere God Bless America!
Cherrio,

Nice one Rick peace man!

Actually we were stationed at RAF Alcombury ( sp? ). About 65 miles NE of London. We had friends there that were from Cornwall. That is how I had the chance to sample those pies. I always enjoyed dinner at their home.

I'm glad you had a time man! I didn't think I would miss much. Then I moved away, most things are just to satisfy my constant hunger, and I don't miss the weather either. Miss some of the big broad leaves though, mostly Pines here. they get real sticky at a 100 deg!
