This tree fell in my back yard. Up rooted due to a ice storm. I started cutting it up for firewood ad I'm having issues identifying. It's the easiest wood I've ever split fresh and green. Black walnut, butternut, elm, maple, hickory? Seems kind of soft...

I'm not sure - I would have guessed black walnut by coloring but the bark doesn't look right. Black walnut is easy splitting and relatively soft.

Not an easy ID.
Bark looks like black or crack willow.
I'm guessing the dark heart wood is mineral staining.
Saw green twigs in the last pic, are they from this tree?
Good pics of the twigs would help or even if you can find a dead leaf.
Also a pic of a similar near by tree that's not cut.
Just ideas to help you ID your tree.

I'll have to get some pics of twigs. The dark center is turning grey. It splits really easy I hope I didn't waste time on chopping for firewood

If it's in the willow family it's a softwood.
An other tree with very corse bark in your neck of the woods is a coffee tree. The growth ring spacing and being a co-dom trunk leans more to willow.

The inside looks like a big Mimosa I cut up but the bark seems wrong although I don't have a clear recollection of the bark. It was a semi hard wood that split easily but didn't provide much heat. Burned fast and has more ash than oak. A friend liked it for turning small bowls and making fountain pen bodies.

Black willow it is. Here's a pic when it fell from the ice storm.. thanks guys.

Found another one on the ground. Hickory? Elm?

I'm not convinced that the big downed trees are the same tree as the scrubby trees shown in other photos. Please send pictures of the leaves when they are out, if you remember which trees looked like the one you cut.
Pretty much all the possible kentucky trees that look similar to these are good firewood.

The last picture was indeed a hickory. I cut and split about 3/4 of a cord from the tree. I burned some cooking last weekend. Love the hickory smell.

Please send pictures of the leaves when you can. That bark is quite different than the Hickories here.

I have at least three different hickory trees on my place,, each one has a VERY different bark.
I gotta get my neighbor to point them out to me,, when I want to know about them,,
He knows where EACH one is,, because of the squirrels that live near them,,
