I posted this earlier in the commercial forum but I think this is right forum for this thread.

I am considering the purchase of a Kubota R420 or a Swinger 240. Both machines have around 4000 hrs. Both are priced about the same. Both have a grapple bucket. I want to use them for loading wood without turf damage and to load split firewood into a dump truck. I would be purchasing the machine site unseen.

Should I wait until I can afford a lower hour machine. Has anyone operated either or both and has a preference. Which machine is more stable on uneven ground. Thanks for the suggestions.

ooof 4000 hrs, if you have work lined up (money coming in) maybe save up for something a little less tired, lest you don't mind wrenching

I sold a bobcat last year that had over 5000 hours on it. I used it for about 7 years with no real trouble.
I've got a buddy that has a Cat back hoe with over 10000 hours on it, and it still works every day.
The hours wouldn't scare me much. Buying sight un-seen would.
Maintenance is the key, and if you aren't there to look at it you don't have a chance of seeing if it's been maintained or not.

You can get those kinda hours on a diesel what about the drive train and everything else, she'll be Loose at that age, unless exceptionally maintained

ck all the pins and the center pivot.

If it has spent its life doin tree work The center pin has probably been maxed out more than once

I used to build swingers.....easy to work on.

Just be careful if you don't have any attachment on the front!!!! they WILL tip backward......we found out the hard way.....took 4 guys to load them into trailers!! two or three of them were on the front end.
