Needed to put a new water pump in my Bobcat 743 because it was making a sickening noise and pissing coolant. Took it off today and found the impellers had shaved the housing on the block like a valve lapping! Oops, might have waited a little too long.
All six impellers were cast and snapped off , only found 1 of the pieces, looked in the bottom hose and didn't find anything else, must have gone into the block passages. Any chance these might float out later and take out the new one? The new pump impellers are formed and not cast, maybe an improvement?
Also the new gasket is one of those silver coated(teflon?) should I have used gasket sealer on this?

Still wondering about that gasket? Anybody know?
I went ahead and put sealer on it and fired it up, no leaks so far?

i put a very light coat of sealer on most everything. I would think the pump is always flowing water one way, so the pieces would have to make a complete loop through the system to get back and hurt the new pump. You may get a blockage somewhere cause of it though, and have hotspots, or overheating.

I guess it will be ok with the sealer on there, just seemed like the teflon if that's what is could act a sealer and fill any gaps.

Not really any choice on finding the pieces I guess, just have to take my chances. Thanks

I would think if you are really intense on finding the pieces you would have to knock out the soft plugs on the block. they will most likely be near the front cyl water jacket.

Sounds too much like work, I'll take my chances:greenchainsaw:
