i got a call to remove some kudzu from the top half of a holly tree today, so i went and looked at it and who ever did it before must have left a small amount of it in the tree because she said it was only around the bottom half before. Long story short has anybody ever had any experience removing this crap and could give some advice or is the only way to remove it is one vine at a time until its all gone. seems like its going to be a big pain in the butt.

Thanks, brian

I have always wondered about that stuff myself. It doesn't survive this far north, so I have no experience.

I should think you could cut it off at the ground level, and anything up in the tree that you don't manage to pull out will still be dead, wither up, and fall out (eventually).

But like I said, I have never touched the stuff.

bid hourly rate or you will screw yourself bigtime.

+1

I ain't no arborist, but I've seen what that stuff can do! :dizzy:

Make sure you don't guarantee that it won't return, either!

Local county guys swear by the Weed Wrench for pulling the roots. I have one, and it does work as advertised. Well made, too. Just be sure you get a bigger one than you think you'll need, if you go this route.

+1 (on all of that...)

I'd also add, treat the root system.

Check various university Extension services or USFS to see what they all recommend:

Whatchoo talkin' 'bout, main? You da same latitude as me, and we gots plenty of it!

That is somewhat irrelevant, since we just don't have it here. I have driven through the South, and I know what it looks like.

Our usual winter low is somewhere near -5°F, harsh winters can drop to -20°F. I don't think kudzu likes it that cold.

Yeah, thet wus mah pint! It's not how far north you are, it's how much of the far north comes whistling down your neck come winter time! :D

I told her 150.00 before i posted this thread which might not be that bad if i finish in the 2 hrs. i thought it might take me. I wish i would have posted before i looked at the job because i really dont feel like messin with now. This street has a lot of dead trees so hopefully i will get some real work after it is said and done.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys

The best way I've found is to brush a round up/2-4D mixture on the leaves of all the vines, wait a week or 2 and you will be able to tell if you missed any, them remove them.
