How do you guys store your ladders on the chip trucks? I'm not sure if they should be hung on the side, or if they should go on the roof... I can see benefits and drawbacks to both.

We store our 20' extenion ladder on the top of the truck. I installed gutters for 6 yrs. and with that company we stored the laddders on the sides of the truck because of how often we were useing them.

As far as most forestry body chip trucks go, they are pretty much legal width of 8 feet. Thus, ladders need to go on the roof. That's where we carry 28 foot extension and 12 foot orchard ladders.

We have a really nice 14' Featherlite step ladder with steps on each side for doing cedars. It goes in the truck. When the truck is full of stuff, it goes on the stuff and gets tied in place. When we use a pickup, it goes on the top of the rack.

I answered and was surprised to see so many of you putting them on the side. Nothing says " Tree Barge coming through!" like strapping a big cheeked ladder to the side of the truck. I thought it a little Sanford and Son myself. Boop boop bood dip bodap boo... boo bip bo do do dit do.
I could never figure out which side to hang anyway and I thought it better to keep narrow over low.
