Lakeside or anyone,

Need some info on the old Stihl 029's from about 10 years ago. What was the common setup for that saw in ref to chain / bar combo. Did they set up those saws up with .325 or 3/8" pitch, .050 or .063 guage, and what was the "common" bar length?

The one I bought came with a 16" bar with .325 chain.

It's a regional issue. Out west they are almost always 3/8 0.050. Personally, I like a full skip 3/8 on a 20 inch bar, but that's not recommened for the inexperienced.

The saw would work just fine with .325/.063 also.

Yea mine was bought East Coast. Never knew the difference, Untill I started hanging around here.
I did change it over, and thought I cut better with 3/8 pitch.

It must be a regional thing. I believe that the one that my friend bought and most every other saw that I have seen come set up with a 20" inch bar with .325 chain. I have never seen one here on the east coast with 3/8". He has expressed interest in the larger 3/8" chain but wasn't too keen on spending the extra cash on a new bar, chain, and sprocket. I told him to wait until he wears everything out and then make the switch.
