Flowering in May probably not going to happen, we are on similiar latitude, they usually leaf out late and stay flowered into fall. You can clip old flowers off and get a second or third set of buds also.

Dada, we may be on a similar latitude, but we never get frost. Temps have not gone below about 54 this year, and its been 68-72 for the last month!
My surinam cherries are flowering now, and we've already picked 15 gallons of loquats!
We are 4 inches behind on rainfall this year, not a good sign heading into summer, lawns are dry, rainwater tanks are low...
