Sherrill has a good one. I wonder what would happen if you are pointing it up at a limb as a plane flew over.
Jeff :)

That Sherrill one is good. I have one, sometimes while driving at night, my 11 year old son will try (not while other cars are coming at us) and shine it on the signs. Their reflectiveness makes it pretty cool. Also fun in foggy weather, it's like star wars. Oh wait, we are talking about tree care.:hmm3grin2orange:

I use the ones you can by in the pet stores for cats! CHEAP!
I have had mine for 4 years, changed the battery one time, cost me like 7 bucks!

not exactly in the same vein, But I've got a bosch laser tape. It measures distance to within a couple of mm over 50m (about 1/8" over 160'). I use it mainly for building and estimating on building and painting jobs, but it also comes in real handy for measuring tree height. It has come in real handy a few times doing industrial access work when I wasn't sure the ropes would reach. You can use it as a laser pointer also, but I must admit it isn't real bright. Fantastic at night, but a little ordinary or even hard to see in bright light. Fantastic to measure a tree height and then mark out on the ground exactly where it will lay in close quarters falling which is most of my work.
