If its rec climbing the choice is yours. Personally I like good ankle support and those pictured are about as low as I would go. If your boots fit well then when you really need the grip, say "walking" up a leader that slopes more than 30 degrees, you will have it.
A good pair of wool socks goes a long way too.
I switch to the kevlar, calf high boots when blocking down and the extra padding and support is just great. Spend a few hours in spurs and you will really appreciate the steel plate running from toe to heel in boots like Haix Protector Pro's.
