Lead by example/see ISA Master Arbor Poll

Rocky,
Trying to seperate the legitimate, constructive ideas from your non-constructive attacks, opinions and biased viewpoints is like finding diamonds in the Amazon river (the largest river on earth), they are there just hard to find.
Where do you think the concept of "Pruning Standards" came from? God?
No, higher levels of scientificlly based pruning methodology, botany, and the understanding/incorporation/delivering of these concepts into a format easily understood by all (even you) is due in part to formal organizations such as the ISA and the funding efforts into research it (the ISA) has and continues to do as a normal part of it's duties.
You are correct and I share your sentiments RE: poor tree care practices. You can go down any street in any city and see for yourself rampant examples of "tree abuse".
Change in these cultural practices can only come about (in my opinion) from organized institutions as well as from word-of-mouth.
Should a neighbor want their trees to look like the ones you pruned, then we have accomplished the goal. But this cannot happen by railing against the ISA and expecting them to carry the entire load. This change can be helped along by folks like yourself you have a burning desire and the motivation to carry it out.
Help dont hinder- THE POWER IS YOURS! Lead by example, rally the troops, rah, rah go for it. The road to hell is littered with should have dones, and what ifs, and you shoudda done thats. Carry the banner, lead the charge (I'll be right behind you)

Lead, follow, or get out of the way!!

It is so much easier to complain than to be part of the solution.

The same way society hates to take responsibilty for their actions. Easier to pass the blame.

Personally I don't think things will have a real change until certification is tied with insurability. Then I think you will see a real certification emerge. Until then, it is not a bad framework to work with. So it is not everything, or even very much.

ISA has all but fallen on its face in this country. I have never met a member or an ISA cert arb from the Germany/Austria chapter.

I am looking at getting my European Tree Worker cert sometime. TCIA and ISA are still in an evolution - I think great things are yet to come. ;)

Huh? Everyone is insurable. Having liability ins as prereq for CA is not abad idea tho.

Why? Is ETW that strong?

I agree. The orgs can only grow as strong and smart as the energy members put in, but there is a lot of power in the people who belong. They just have to keep becoming part of the solution.

I can't wait for Pitsburgh; fully half the presenters are from the field. It'll be great to see Murph and others as they put their shoulders to the wheel.

I think what he meant was that it would be an improvement if insurance companies would not issue coverage unless a certification was held.
