Leaf drop on catalpas

I have 2 young catalpas maybe 5-6 yrs old, 20 ft tall,and after having a very heavy bloom this spring,the majority of leaves wilted,died and dropped about 3 weeks ago.Think it's anthracnose?

BTW one still has quite a few leaves left and the latent buds are resprouting but the other tree is mostly defoliated and shows no new growth.

look for these critters

Hawk moth caterpilers, they can clean a large catalpa of leaves in the summer and they are good for catfishing bait.

Without seeing the trees - my first thought would be verticillium wilt.

Any buds growing into postition? Are the whole branches dead?

some branches are completely dead but some have new buds sprouting

Was it sprayed? Highly systemic pesticides in hot weather can trash a Catalpa.
