Hey all , the neighbour has a tree he wants down a living leaning shore pine ( coastal variety of lodgepole pine on the coast of BC ) it's about 3 ft diameter at waist height , about 70 ft tall and got a lean of approx 20 degrees , branches are all above the mid point .

Was wondering if they are known to barber chair since it has a good lean to it .. the wood is kinda funny being heavy but weak , was wondering if it is best to bore cut the center and leave a 7" backstrap or .... leave it for someone with a cherry picker

There is only a nice aluminum boat to crush and two driveways to clean up if it falls in the present lean direction. And the tree is growing on the edge of a bank , you have to stand on the slope to fall it . I'm gonna pass on it , the tree is big and needs to be turned a good 30 degrees to avoid a big clean up and my saw has only a 24" bar

When i was tree spacing smaller big leaf maples would barber chair frequently , no one told us about that .... we all survived but man some of them were booby traps .

I've only had one tree barber chair on me, a big 18" DBH alder 40 years ago.

Since I do not do production work, have taken to placing 2 wraps of 3/8 chain with grab hooks around the trunk a foot or so above my cut, no barber chairs. since.

A) bore cut to a back strap
B) use the triangle
C) cut in from both sides and then finish cutting down the middle
D) bore in from the face then cut from the back
All after cutting the face

I have seen all four types used in various videos on the tube.
which is the best recommendation?
