My hat is off to you pro tree guys. While scouting for firewood, I found a huge oak that had fallen across a fenceline. Went to offer my services for the wood, was told that the hubby was going to buy a saw and take care of it. 2 months later i get called back to cut it and leave it, and was asked to look at 2 other trees. Simple job, away from structures, well within my capabilities. The customer is an older lady, whose husband ran off, leaving her with little funds, so I am doing this real cheap. You guys have the patience of saints for being able to deal with customers. She is into new-age healing and all other things that a simple redneck can't comprehend. Today she brought me a smoothy made of who knows what and maple syrup. I almost threw up tasting it. She has already offered to pay in massages, which I don't think will go far to make the saw and truck payments. I'm minding my manners because I need the money, but to you guys who do this day in, day out, it must be hard. I think I spend more time talking and dodging massages and health food than cutting!!. Think i'll head back to the farms where it was just me and the squirrels.

LOL!!!! What kind of mesages are we talking about??? Some can be quite enjoyable:greenchainsaw::clap:

The most important question is... How did she look?

No. 1 rule, always make sure you get paid in the monetary form. Trust me, it gets too complicated otherwise... Especially if the husband decides to show back up during one of the massage cessions... Or worse, is hiding in the closet watching the massage cession... :greenchainsaw:

I had a lady in upstate new york that wanted to pay me in massage sessions to remove 11 pines on her property, behind her house, but still a threat to the home. She was a "professional" in her words.

of coarse, my girlfriend was attending the swedish institute of massage therapy in NYC at the time, so she was all about this little arrangement.

I opted for cash. While I was doing the removals, on a saturday, a client showed up. This lady stripped him naked, then she stripped naked, and they both hopped into her pool, which I could see clearly while I was working behind the house.

She floated him around the pool for a while, supporting his weight, and swishing him about from side to side. I looked over again, and he had her pinned up against the side of the pool, going to town. She was loud, I could hear her over my 066 idling.

She was short and wide.

The "Client" left before I was finished bucking up the pines.

When I was finished, and she was cutting the check, she reminded me again that I could take partial or full payment in "massages."

I thought it was hysterical. I never went back.

So, I'm hoping that if you want us to trust you on this you have a story to back it up?

I could use a story like that right now....

Lets just say that I have had some bizarre experiences in this trade. I have been offered everything from pets to drugs to "massages" for payment. I have learned that nothing beats cash on the barrel head!

yea barter is a funny thing aint it, i never had an offer like that but gota say i have generaly made out ok on barter, probably my best was cut down and burned a half dozen small trees and some brush for a high school friends parents, just helping out not realy a paying thing. she asked if i had any use for the pallet or 8 inch cement blocks her husband had left behind when he left and the pile of rough sawn lumber she wanted to get outa the yard, so i loaded both into the truck, built a shed outa the wood, and next day at work a co worker asks where to buy concrete blocks for repairing his basement walkway, so i said sure i got a pallet ya can have, i didnt need them, so we unload the blocks at his house and he says hey ya want this wheelhorse garden tractor i gota get rid of it wont run, ok pull it on the truck, take it home clean the carb and mowed the lawn with a relatively new wheelhorse! i have had pretty good luck bartering maple syrup for firewood tho, usualy wood offered for free anyhow but when ya leave them a pint of maple syrup made in your own sugarhouse they usualy call ya again when theres more wood available rather than lettin it go to whoever walk by

My old girlfriend bought me a new set of climbing gear onetime to do the trees at her house. That was pretty cool. We did a lot of "bartering", lol but we were dating, she wasn't married and it was all in fun.

Also did a job for a guy who owned a local steak house chain onetime. He paid some cash and $500 in gift certificates for his restaurants. Ate steak all winter... Well almost, I blew some of them on Long Island iced teas too. :D

I really enjoy bartering. Worked about 4.5 hours with a 5 man crew last year for our estimate truck. Trimmed my buddies bushes a few times for gutters on my brother's house. Lotsa stuff. I hate charging friend's money so we usually try to work something else out.

Just got to be careful, I had someone offer me a Mustang to do storm damage for them here a couple of years back. It was a nice one and in good shape too. I declined because I didn't need a sports car and was loaded with cash paying jobs but I met the guy later who did do the work for the car. He finished the job and when he showed up to pick up the car it was gone. The HO said it had been stolen. The guy just wrote it off. He was from out of town and didn't feel like going through the hassle of going to court over it he said.

Offering payment other than good ol' cash must be more of a recurring thing lately. Just recently I was offered a bunch of p.o.r.n dvd's for my services. I just giggled and said "That's ok", then the owner raised his eye brow because of what I said, then I quickly backed it up with "Don't need any".

I think he thought he clinched the deal when I originally said "That's ok". LOL!
