Just picked up a project the other day, used 359. The engine has seized with evident scuffing on the piston on the exhaust side. Have not torn down to see the extent of the damage but that is the part I enjoy the most. This will be my first saw experience. I'm sure there will be questions but before I ask, Ill use the Search feature. Been here long enough to know that it needs to be given the first opportunity.

Plans are to have

1. new piston/gasket set
2. DN woods port
3. exhaust mod
4. Carb rebuild/ check manifold for leaks

Anxious to see how well this "Budget Basket" will run. Of course, my WT has held up for quite a while and has done an OK job. Wanting better performance in larger wood, speed and antivibe.

The 359 is a good saw to mod. are you going to have dave do it all for you or are you just going to have him do the porting and muffler mod ?

Plan is to send the cylinder and have him port it. I dont trust myself with a grinder and an attitude of "If a little is good, Then Ill hog it out and it ought to fly":laugh:

Well you can't go wrong with sending it to dave.

Tell you what take a picture of that piston and cylinder and lets see if we can have some fun with it here.

Not the new one of corse, lets see the one you already have.

If you can put a piston and ring in it to get it to run it would be awsome to see before DN and after DN. The 359 will be my next saw or a dolmar 6400. I hear that the 359 will get up and dance after DN is done with it. I hope to find a low compression one to send to him also. there seems to be a few of them out there.

There is a pretty big differense between the 359 and 6400 - not comparable saws. The 6400 has a lot more power, but also a lot more weight.......:confused:

The 359 is reputed to take very good to mods, but I never heard of anyone having a 6400 seriously modded, without putting a 7900 P&C on it first.

Edit;
Well there are a tread on modded 6400s going on, and there is proof of at least two of them existing........

I suspect the result will be best if you send him the complete powerhead, but I don't really know - ask him.
