Leveling cable replacement bucket truck

I just bought a 1978 Versalift type BF -24 and the leveling cable was broke inside the boomi pulled it out and spliced it the same length but it likes 10” going back to the eyelet to put the pin back in. Do you have to raise the boom to get slack in the cable or what?

what on earth are you doing with a bucket from 1978?
hell mines a 1992 and too old, I think osha says 20 year limit then scrap it

The truck is 78 the lift is 83. But I have it on my farm

the lift is still 40 years old, if it fails you likely die
not to be "that guy" about your new purchase, but that lift isnt worth the money to replace the leveling cables
I wont even replace the hoses on my boom (92) when they need it again, going to scrap the boom when they let go
