For any one thinking of going to New Orleans to do contract work get the real deal first!

New Orleans contract work ='s Gambling, thanks to horrible Govt miss management. My advice, go to Vegas, either way you might win, you might lose, but at least in Vegas your getting served free food and drinks and sitting in air conditioning the whole time!

Here is how it works!

New Orleans has a bunch of people who have left over Katrina damage and want it taken care of for free, by the govt.

the government gets a bunch of federal funding to take care of the problem

the government sends a smart person around who notes all the information about each job at each persons residence, except how long they think the work should reasonable take.

the government then wisely allots a SINGLE dollar amount per job, for all jobs no matter how big or small. (now the contractor trying to get you to come down will tell you they are all small, but what does "small" mean? they dont care. and they are NOT all small)

now the government hires govt-contractors to do the work at the specified per property rate, lets say $1000.

these govt-contractors cant do it all, if any, themselves. so they hire general contractors and pay them slightly less per job, lets say $600, and keep the rest.

now the general contractors cant even do it all, if any, so they go out hiring independent contractors and pay them slightly less per property, lets say $300.

Now the more subs each contractor has the more money each one can make without having to spend any money to get the actual work done. it's a pretty sweet deal!

now some of the jobs are very small and the govt is wasting millions of dollars paying way to much for a contractor to do a five minute task. in other cases the government wants a $6000 job done, that will cost the contractor $2000, for $300. imagine if you offered a flat rate for all tree work to your clients, you would have to be insane right?

So the contractors above you have every incentive to give you the harder jobs and keep the easier ones for themselves, and no incentive to make sure you make money. they make their portion of the jobs money even if you lose money paying for it to get done.

my advice, if someone asks you to come down and work under them. tell them you want to get paid a flat rate per day, just like you would pay your workers. this brilliant flat rate per job system set up by the govt, army core, FEMA, and whoever else breeds corruption. if you know the right people or paid the right people you could make untold amounts of money. simply get someone to pass you all the really easy 20min jobs and let them sucker someone else down to lose money on the really long ones!

what is the solution?

PRICE THE JOBS ACCORDING TO THEIR SIZE!
When the Army Core rep first looks at the property, simply guess-temate about how long it should take! With a day or two of training our sales reps back home do it just fine. that way! no corruption, we all work hard, do a good job, and no one gets screwed. Trust me i paid $5000 to work my ass off for a week.
