Mike, I guarentee that by next Wednesday you'll be able to walk to the island and take a better look at the other end of those wires. The highest temp from Friday night thru Wed is only 4F degrees.

No, they're not hot.

Can you line clearance guys, say these two lines (connected together on the insulator across from guy) are definately not hot?

Grab those %@#$ers!! You'll see. They're cool as a cucumber.

I always consider every line hot unless TESTED, TAGGED & GROUNDED. Also Feedback from generators is a major concern. If you don't know, have utility come out and inspect.

Are we talking about the wire that come at a 90 to the pole and attaches through a Poly directly to the down guy? if so then these are not hot. I was a linesman for 5 years before I did tree work. ALL I did wa line construction. NOONE would ever terminate a hotleg to a poly and the use it as a overhead guy. The wire used for guying and for carrying electricity are two very different make-ups. The wire on the top of the pole running through the lone insulator is the hot leg.
The wire is doubled back on itself because that is the type of construction they used back then. You still see alot of it in Boston and down towrds the cape and Western, MA. You would never run a hot leg through a Poly and then double it back on itself like that. Way too dangerous. Go back to the main road that the power is fed from and look for a switch or a set of airbrakes. Take a pic of those and that will be the ned of the discussion.

Hope this helps.

Oh yeah, the reason that guy wires are insulated is so if a hot leg somehow comes in contact with the guy wire further down the line that it wont travel down to the ground we stand on and will stay within the system. This is designed this way for public safety, by the time it travels down the guy wire and finds a gound it should have opened a cutout somewhere before hurting the public.
