I built this arch based on member Jcappe's design. It has 2-1/2" square tubing used as receiver locations to use the winch where it is needed. The winch tube has flats welded on so that it doesn't need pinned unless transporting. It also sits high enough to use tongs in the rear for the initial lift so you don't need to get a chain or strap under it. Once the rear of the log is up, move the winch forward, throw the line under the log and lift it into place.
Logs that are 16' long will hang heavy in the rear and utilize the "V" shaped guide toward the front of the arch. The guide is also removeable. It will carry a 32" diameter log 8" off the ground.
There is expanded metal under the backbone gussets forming an area to carry PPE, gas, bar oil, sharpening tools, chains and other supplies. I also made 2 plywood scaboards located in the front to carry saws and my timberjack. A kickstand installs in the rear receiver to store the arch vertically, taking up less space in my outbuilding.
I tried it out before snow flew and painting, it works very well. Family and neighbors didn't understand the concept utill they saw it in action and were surprised at how fast a log was ready for transport.
The arch weighs less than 300 lbs. and I have well under $400 in it. I hope this project sparks some new ideas and someone uses some of mine. I don't have pictures of it loaded with log(s), but you may enjoy these.View attachment 168549View attachment 168550View attachment 168551View attachment 168552View attachment 168553
