Hey everyone, Just got a poulan 3400 & 4000 the other week off marketplace. I was wondering if anyone could recommended a carb kit/repair kit I could order. From what i have heard and researched so far I see that both these models parts are pretty interchangable between them, could anyone attest to that? I would like to get the 4000 running first and was wondering if I can pull parts from the 3400. Any and all tips/recommendations welcomed, I still got a lot to learn about repairing saws so any guidance is much obliged! Appreciate yall!

Hey Hotshot! Would you by chance know of what kind/where i could find some gasket material? I finally got the carb rebuilt, but can't seem to find a gasket for the whole carb (not sure the name but the gasket between carb and engine.) This one is super dry rotted. Any help would be appreciated!!

Any auto parts store has FelPro gasket sheets. Try an O’Reillys or AutoZone in your area.

That gasket is 5300-19099, some do show up on internet auction sites.

Also check the two bolts down at the intake manifold where it meets the cylinder, known to get loose & fairly hard to get to w/o pulling the cylinder.

Easy enough to make for sure. But guys are making them all and selling on ebay now.

I mean for this cost. My time worth way more. https://www.ebay.com/itm/2961736951...zkJxsww==|tkp:Bk9SR-Dgq4TSZA&var=594263349049

You asked

When you get deep into Poulans you never know about if the donor parts from ones even with same model number on the outside of the case will interchange until you try such. (one size does not fit all)You will encounter surprises.
Also try to get as many for donor saws parts as you can. Watch garage sales and neighbors for salvage saws. I sometimes take 3 or 4 and make one and not have to buy any new parts. Start buying new parts and you can easily get more into one that if bought new.
Have fun.

All the 3400, 3700, 4000 are completely interchangeable except for piston and jug. Minor changes like the 4000 has a higher flow air filter and higher top hat plastics to accommodate, but everything is interchangeable. Awesome old saws. I run my 4000 all the time. My favorite saws. I have multiple 3400’s, a 3700 and a 4000 as well as a 5200 i am currently restoring. Their Craftsman and skil cousins are the same saws, just different colors and minor cosmetic differences.

Dont know what the condition of yours is, but sugar creek supply sells decal kits if you are wanting to restore them. Ebay has tons of parts for these as well.

Just finished getting my 4000 running and put together! First old school saw ive ever worked on! got it running pretty good, probably going to get normal bar and chain for it to use mainly. Now going to start deep cleaning it and trying to do a full restore. Will def look into sugar creek for decals.
