Am new to the site so bare with me. My log splitter makes a squealing noise and stalls when encountering even the least amount of resistance. Anybody give me an idea as to where to start to resolve this proablem. It is a horizontal splitter with about a three foot ram. Thanks, Jergen.

mine did that right after i bought it (used) once i put it into some difficult wood... messed with the 2 stage adjustments, had a buddy that is really good with hydraulics look at how it was acting, could'nt figure it out.
finally i got pist and took the pump off and disected it, the keyway had broken and it wiped out the second stage, still worked on nice straight wood but not when you needed the extra umph..
anyway, new barnes pump and she's been hittin hard ever since..
take it apart if ya don't get a better answer, if it's ok you can just reassemble it..
hope that helps a little

is it a belt driven pump or a direct drive? mine is a belt drive and when the belt loosen's off it will squeal and occasionally turn in the pulley bind and kill the motor, just a thought
