Hi there, I ain't no arborist, but I found 6 good stems in a tiny Burg. They were looming over all those domesticated untilities such as houses, power lines, houses, shops, thourough fares, you know all the neat stuff.
Anyway, I dumped em all, lock, stock and barrel with no mishap, but I had to choke them 14' above stump height with my truck and tractor. The Township got a few calls and I breezed my way thru.

Nice Stump, I'd call that busy allright. If I can keep a trunk off my tractor and cant hook, I feel like I've done my job.

Oh I almost forgot, I was buckin out 21' of Walnut veneer so I could get two 10" 6" sticks. The stem pictured was about 30" at stump hieght so the Walkerized 385 with 28" bar walked thru it rather nicely. I blocked the top up into fuelwood with Dennis's 2171 a couple of real nice saws.

Hi Mike, what I get off on is the evactuation when the stems ready to go. All disbelievers can be spotted for miles.

Hi there, I'm glad I got the wood down and didnt damage it. Walnut will slpit like Cheery, just by looking at it sideways, thus, no Dutchmens as in sawed off corners.

Sweet...Bet that Walnut will buy another saw or two eh? When I lived in Memphis, I had a real nice Walnut in my backyard that blew over in a windstorm. Luckily it blew over on the neighbors side. Didn't do much damage, crashed the fense and his pop camper. Knocked out my electric drop. I swear, I don't remembere that dark center like that. The Hickory i,ve been getting lately has that dark looking heart, but smaller of course. Anyway, good job John. Congrats

WRM- I was gonna say that looked a lot like Hickory. I had a Hickory removal a few years ago that was about 32"-36" at the stump. I got $700 for taking it down, got the trunk hauled for free by the guy who owned the property where I dumped, and got 2-3 free dumps too!

You ain't a kiddin about the splittin. Don't know how many ruined stems I have seen that split...

Hi Jim, I know what your sayin'. Thats why I choke the butt with a load binder on stems I'm not sure of. Just in case, but leave no Dutchman in. Big wood is easily commited by wedges and a gentle mechanical influence. The hinge wood talks and is the deciding factor on where a tree will lie as though a cupboard door.

How many board feet and what $mbf are ya getting for that pretty stuff, John?

I've got about 6000 board feet of fir to log in three adjoining yards, starting Saturday. Got close to $8000 to do the work, plus crane fees, $ off the bill for log proceeds. It wont be much with export fir bringing $600 max. 36 foot length average needed. So we'll cut lots of 20 footers on the less straight, clear stuff, and get 400-500 for domestic, plus get more board footage. The $8000 includes pruning four large trees, and brush chipping. Plus a grand or so to grind stumps. And of course all trees must be climbed.

Still looking for some nice figured maple, brings 3-6 bucks per bf!!

Hi RBtree, I'm selling Asian right now at 3$BF U.S. for the Walnut. The Americans pay more, but airn't buying till july, cause the sap stains the wood due to the heat. I buy timber and dont charge for takedown cause I market roundwood, but seek only green gold. I think the stem pictured may gross 1000 U.S if I'm lucky. Wish I had 1000 of em and gross 1 mill or a hundred pounds of 50's.

Hey, John,
Don't forget about your old friends on this site when you get to be one of those millionares some day!

Don't improve your spelling too much, John. With these one-liner replies to your own posts and bad spelling, people are actually beginning to believe that you are Ryan Willock.

Thats it Ryan, go get im, and put him in his place. No one should have to put up with the kind of abuse that Doug dishes out. Dont take no guff from him, I never do.
