Lombard smokes

I want to repair my Lombard Super Lightning. I saw an old post about this problem, but not sure about the parts or what to buy. My saw smokes like a mosquito fogger, and has as long as I can remember.

I have the IPL, need to see what part to fix. (Happy to share IPL if anyone is interested in it.)

I'd like to know what parts to buy, and guidance on the repair. It's some kind of a check valve I think.

I have newer saws now to use for fire wood, but this is the first saw my Dad bought, in August 1978. We used it a lot, and I'd like to get it going and use it again. It runs ok, I've started and run it, but the smoke cloud makes it pretty unpleasant to be around. It's heavy, but it always worked well for us, and we cut a lot of fire wood with it for many years.

Any help and information would be much appreciated.

Thanks for reply. It's not the mix. It's the way the saw is made that bar oil gets drawn into the crankcase. There's a check valve that is supposed to keep it out somehow, and I need to fix that part. I have the IPL but can't figure out yet where the problem is. Other people have talked about this in old threads, and said to fix the "duckbill, as it turns to goo". I need to get the old one out and put a new part in there. Hope I can find a good part to use.

As far as your question, I've used different mixes. Most recently 50:1 avgas, but using different mixes has no affect on the smoke. The oil will even come out of the muffler when the saw sits and you crank it. Real oil, not gas mix oil.

Great info. The article you linked to has great info. and detail, including pictures of the parts. Plus, the parts numbers are named. Appears to be item 42 on my IPL.

You`re welcome and good luck with your quest. All I can remember about them is that the duckbill was in an elbow that connects to the tank so #42 looks like the place it would be located. If you want, post over in that thread found in the sticky section, top of the main page, the guys there work on particular models and have good knowledge and experience, they also often have found work arounds for certain parts that are NLA.

Ive had a few small Homelite’s like that. It can be problem on any saw where the oiler is driven by crankcase pulses and there are problems.

That's interesting, I didn't know the crankcase pulses push the oil.

I took some pictures and ordered a part. Will post when I get a chance, to maybe help anyone else doing this type of repair.

Part location. Note oily muffler. I think it's the part to the right of the oil fill cap. The left elbow is probably where oil pressure goes in from the manual oil pump on the handle.

Husqvarna Part Number 530026119 Valve-Check (Duckbill)
it came up on Amazon from Jack's Small Engines for $5.32. We'll see if it fits when I work on the saw and get it apart.
