I am ready to buy a bucket, am I crazy to think I can find something for around $10,000? There is an auction around here in Edinburgh, Ohio, but they seem to only have DAVEY equipment. I would prefer an asplundh Hi-Ranger, with hydraulics (would like to stay away from the cable units) Does anyone know of an asplundh forestry auction near them? Thanks

52 feet

i found 52 foot hi ranger for 5k. i have been using it for 2 months 3 days a week with no problems.they are out there.kenny

I have one for sale little older but great shape and 4x4

There are a few good ones for less than 10k but going to be older trucks. They take little more attention but lot easier and cheaper to work on.
I'm selling because I have 2. Actually 3 but one is strictly for parts, not really usable. The one I'm selling is an 87 GMC with new motor, 55' height and 2man bucket and is material handler and has chipper dump box.
I'm asking $7500
Posted pictures in the ad section on here.
I'm sure there are others as well.
How well can you check them out at an auction?. I kinda like to talk to the previous owner and user.
I'm just south of Indianapolis, Indiana.
PM me if desired.

I looked for six mths. I found a 50' ex municipality truck in mint shape for 8000. I know most of the auction trucks have issues If you are good with a wrench you might be alright otherwise plan on putting as much into the truck as you pay for it.

I also am now afraid of auction trucks.

:agree2:
I bought an auction truck awhile back and ended up rebuilding almost everything on it.
Please be careful with bidding on trucks at auctions.

Look around there are some good deals out there now. Also check with companies that sell out of state from you some are now shipping anywhere.
also ebay.

This is were I buy my trucks, good guys, know everything about them, re-calibrated all systems before they sell, I bought one unpainted, painted it my self for about 1000,

I had some issues with auction trucks as well. Had to stick some money into them right away but overall very good trucks.

Problems with auction trucks is you don't get the chance to run it down the road and heat up the engine. That's when any problems are likely to show up. You might not see the underlying issues when a truck is parked and idling. Trust me, I bought two trucks on ebay and they looked just as represented when I picked them up. Drove them 550 miles home and that's when the issues showed up. got them home and put both straight into the shop. One is all fixed up and working great. One is still in the shop with a cracked head which we're trying to find a replacement for.

Big risk with buying from some brokers. They whitewash the cab & chassis, goop undercoating everywhere & slap on some chrome hubcaps. They are frequently not inspectable (ANSI/DIE) & require huge $ to make them safe. I know of 2 cases here in NH, purchased from different brokers, very unhappy customers. When I stated huge repair bills, I'm speaking of $10K & $18K. The white paint over the rust is a nice touch. It stays white until the customer is almost home, then the rust bleeds through.

Thats why I buy them unpainted, I can see, I bought 2 trucks there, drove them over 400 miles back home, no probs. everything works fine. What I like about them is the have all the booms checked by the manufacturer and they are all re-certified.
Plus they gave me a free 3x shirt! (i am 135lbs!)
