Hey whats up guys? Ive been climbing on Samson Blue streak for the past few years now, using a split tail blakes hitch system, just recently added a prussic minding pulley as well to it and it seems to be working very well....but with these new ropes comming out Im curious to try something differnt...Anyone use the Lava rope by NE Ropes or the Lightning by Samson yet? Looking to maybe try a different split tail hitch like the Distel or the VT hitch....any opinions or suggestions are greatly apreciated. I do a lot of spikeless climbing now, as well as using acsenders everynow and then. Thanks guys!

:monkey: I started a thread a while back on the same thing. Didn't get much replies, actually don't think it got anything. Just gonna hang in here and see what you get. :)

There are so many of these threads that we often get tired of it. search back-posts for more dialog.

As for ropes, I like a 10mm with a lower strech, since I am bigger then most people, and climb mostly taller trees. I find that the elasticity of some fo the newer, more dynamic ropes makes them even thinner under load, and harder to grip.

My hitch is a VT tied to the beckett of a Petzl Fixe with 3/8 stable braid and a scaffold knot on each end.

I tell people to start with distle or schwabish before going to the VT, since it is the most dynamic hitch we have.

Came from three strand and a tautline, moved up to tru-blue, now to spliced arbormaster and a distel with pully. Tried the Vt but could not get the right amount of twist to hold properly so I gave up on it for now. The tautline to distel was an adjustment, especially visually seeing the smaller diameter split tail. Now I have to practice the tautline every so often just to make sure I still can do it in an emergency. I find the distel to be very reliable and like the fact that I can tie it on my line and never have to untie it or really adjust it since both ends are captured it never loses its form. Tautline and blakes will both creep and roll, distel will not. I will admit to hanging in my yard a few dozen times before going out into a job with it. I even did a few test 'falls' just to get confidence in it.

Today I bought a 120' of Lava so I can now retire my Forestry Pro. For an inexpensive line, the Forestry Pro did me right, my only complaint with it is how badly it milks when it's new.

I've been using a short hank of Lava for a few months now for my backup/lil' tree line, and I really like it. I'm using it with a technora eye and eye split tail and a martin hitch, sometimes a micro-pulley, sometimes not. Like it well enough to replace my main line with it today.
