Hi,
I am new here to the forum; I hope that this is something I can post.
We have advertised locally several times, not coming up with anyone with experience, so thought word of mouth from ones with experience might be the way to go.
LOOKING FOR EXPERIENCED CLIMBER IN THE KANSAS CITY MO AREA
We work 12 months out of the year, have great references, and are well known in the Kansas City area for our professional Arborist on staff.
If you know of someone looking for a climbing position and they have experience, have them contact us.

When you get an applicant, let me know. Chances are good that they no longer work for me, and probably shouldn't work for you, either.

Unemployed climbers in KC seem to be a bunch of jerks. All the good ones are taken, and all the available ones seem to come with a whole lot of baggage.

I'm running a Craig's list ad now. The only applicant I got so far is a guy that says he's been cutting & topping trees on his dad's property for 15 years. He came from the military and they taught him how to work from a bosun's chair,he tells me that he's got great upper body strength, and he usually just climbs without a rope. He's not quite got enough experience to "use those things they put on their feet" to climb the trees. Do you want his number?

Jeez...

Maybe I can come down there and lend a hand when it gets too cold up here in Iowa later in the fall.

Teach him how to tie in and get him some of those climby things for his feet and you just might have one heck of a climber. Careful though, he will probably be worth 75 bucks an hour inside of 6 months or so...

We actually are looking for a climber that is able to climb without spurs... and topping trees is not exactly what we suggest.
If we could find a climber that can actually climb AND spell with a resume... that would be a bonus. We have a great reputation and have work lined up for the next several months as well as pruning for golf courses this winter. Just need to find a good climber.

It is amazing inst it! I can put "must have professional tree service experience", or whatever in my adds, and invariably I still get the "well, I never worked for a tree service, but I been cuttin wood with ma dad ever sinse I can remember" type dumbasses. Whats up with that I wonder??

I've never even had a set of spurs on. Probably just gaff myself with them anyway.

Got a place to park a small travel trailer? My wife informed me today that she doesn't need me around anymore.

I'm curious what you might pay. Maybe PM me that info?

We need a resume', send it to [email protected] and the pay is determined by experience. As far as a place to park the small travel trailer...I would say camping grounds would be the way to go.

I hired a pretty good guy today, so I'll be pulling the Craig's listing. Has his own equipment, and seems pretty good in a tree, although he is completely old school. I have yet to assess what he knows about trimming.

He is not skilled without spurs, but I have all the toys for that, and he is willing to learn. As you have discovered, spurless climbing is almost unheard of around here.

I don't think he has ever seen an ascender before today, but he was definitely intrigued by all the new concepts I was introducing him to. Terms and concepts that he was completely clueless on:

Split tail
DRT & SRT
Ascender, Speed line, Slack-tender micropulley
Cambium saver or friction saver
Stable Braid, or any technical details about any kind of rope.

I sent him up a lightning-struck ash tree today to remove a dead hanger. He did fine, even using my split tail system with VT & slack-tender without complaint. While in the tree, he was ready to knock out some other dead branches, which was not part of the job, so I think he will do fine.
