Open up the muffler a bit. Get the cylinder ported, piston lightened, everything polished up nicely. Much beyond that and you're into the realm of a weekend toy and not a work saw, so plan accordingly.

If you're really looking for the best possible performance gain, put in some time and effort to improve your sharpening skills.

anyone got any ideas? pipes...intake

input please.

Whatcha modding a 038 for , its a brut the way it is. That saw has gobs of torque the way it is and it doesn't have to rev ski high like newer models of today to make its power. Good saw that 038 is....

Forgot to mention it is an 038 magnum.

whats the biggest bar i can put on this thing?

i'm always looking for more power man.

More power??? You're not fooling me. You just want to buy another saw. I see an MS660 in your future.

If it's a real magnum, then it already has a decent triple ported muffler! Hard to do much with the aircleaner on those though... you'd need another carb with integrated choke - Like an 044's Walbro HD, but the linkage is all on the wrong side...

Just use it... it's about the same power as the older 044, with more torque lower down.
