Ok so I maybe the only idiot to think this but I may have bought something that is too long. Let me explain I work out in Wyoming now I originally started in North Carolina and out here I use a lot of redirects for rigging lines due to the giant spans of cottonwoods. I saw one of those loopie with an Omni 1.5 in wesspurs catolog and thought I had to have it so have it I do now. I bought the made with 1/2" tenex and I think it is way too long. Am I crazy? A block with a WLL of 1798 and block with a 2.5" width how big of wood are you really going to be working in? I am about to make this thing way shorter unless someone talks me out of it. If I do go through any idea how long I should go? I am thinking 30" diameter or something there close.
Thanks
Jared

When you say your loopie is 40" in diameter... does that mean you can put it around a 40" section or is it 40" in total length? If it's 40" in total length, that would mean you can set it up around limbs up to 12" in diameter.

the description said it was 4' in diameter so what ever that means. I am guessing when you spread it out in a circle the total dimeter is a 4' at that point . my math says at that point you could loop it around a 24" limb. so follow the math here 4' in diameter 48x3.14=150" total circumfrance. divide that in half cause you use both sides so that equals 75" 75/3.14 = 23.88 diameter limb. That is nuts for this block.

I am confused. You have a loopie that is 4' in diameter, that is a big huge rope! :dizzy:
If you have a loopie that is good foe 4' diameter then the loopie is 12'5".
Circumference is diameter times pi, (3.14)
Now, what is your question?
Jeff:)

I am assuming this is what you have...https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?category_id=328&item=2006#detail

I have one and I love it. I think the length is good the way it is. I would rather have extra tail than not enough. ha thats a good saying right there! But seriously you may wanna put it somewhere that is bigger in order to rope something thats in its size range. I also like to open real quick and toss it over head n shoulder for a quick stowaway spot. When i want something really short for really light duty stuff I choose from a few different lengths of web slings and use either a steel biner or two or maybe a biner to a small pulley. But thats only for ultra light tackle. Thats for limbs that are either just a bit to big to hold onto or theres some reason that trying to hold n pitch is unsafe.

Yes tree ace you are correct and that thing is way huge for what I wanted. I was looking for something smaller. Mine decently has to be smaller just not totally certain how much smaller. I was looking for advice in people having lengths that are handy for uses. yes Jeff that thing was right 12.5' long it was crazy huge. If you guys can help me with a length to cut this thing too without making it worthless that would be great.

See there are other people out here that like these things. You pic is exactly what I have only the 1.5 version on half inch.

Sgreanbeans why do you have to be right I dumbly cut it a foot shorter and regretted it big time the other day. Is it because you are from iowa cause you do know that is the only state mistaken for heaven. PM me sometime looking to possibly move back that way. I am originally from northern iowa. Would like to possibly hook with a tree guy.

It's actually very easy to make these. Buy the tenex and a couple fids for cheaper than the pre made sling. There are videos all over YouTube and Samson has some good splicing manuals available online for free. If I can do it, anyone can. You can make several different lengths.
