Losing tools, and my mind

I have been working on a couple of old 55 husky saws. Mostly playing around since I dont think I want to try making money working on chainsaws. Two weeks ago I bought a new set of metric allen wrenches so I could disassemble the saws. I know, but sure to be proven wrong, that when I got the saws torn apart, I hung the whole set of wrenches on the wall behind my tool bench. Well, of course this week I am trying to put the saws back together and cant find those allen wrenches. Cant find one of the pistons and cyl either. Of course, my bench is a mess and I have since removed everything from the bench and put it back. No luck finding the wrenches or the parts. Now I know sooner or later, those things will turn up, right where I left them. I just I could remember where I put them. Until things do turn up, I guess the saw builds are on hold until I find them. Just wish I didnt have to finish cleaning the shop looking for them. Now this might be time for a good conspiracy theory. My wife probably hid the parts so I would have to clean up the shop. Once everything is clean and back in its rightfull place, she will show up with the parts and say, "Is this what your looking for"

I never check on top of the washing machine, not really sure where that thing is located. Usually, she puts things in one of the cabinet drawers in the kitchen. I have no problem finding the kitchen. I think inside the refridgerator would be the best place to store my lost tools, but thats just my opinion

Well after a good cleaning, I found my allen wrenches, Setting right on top of the work table right beside the saw I was working one. Still havent found the cyl for the saw, but its got to be close.

Its a conspiracy I tell you, I know I looked on the table several times. I believe my wife had them hid and after I got things sort of straightened up, she snuk them back on the table. Any ways, still havent found the cyl for the saw. I had another one I was saving that I cleaned up and used. Saw running like new. Thought I was going to have to put in a compression release to get it cranked. I'll check compression tomorrow after I let it run for a while.

I'm missing a sprocket for my small saw. The first one I got cheap but it was actually out of round. The second one is somewhere in the house or garage but is MIA. I refuse to buy another one as then between the three I'm approaching the value of the saw. Oh well.

Doesnt work for me. I lose one, buy a new one and lose it too. Have to have at least 3 or 4 of everything, that way I trip over it as I walk thru the shop. Always have one close by if you have one in every drawer and hanging on every wall. And lets not forget our favorite hiding place for those special tools you dont want anybody borrowing. Put a tool in that spot and I can guarantee nobody will ever use it,,,, but thats alright, just another excuse to have two of those special tools.

Hopefully everybody understands I am poking fun at myself. I might not be as bad to lose things as I am letting on, but yea, I'm pretty bad

Heck I put tools away so I don't lose them and it will take a year or more ( sometimes never) to find that never lose spot again. Or I am doing something see a tool think should put away, I'll do it later- never comes- couple weeks or days and I am in need of that tool and I can't find it. And the worst scenario is looking right at several time while looking for it and it does not register. Now who is losing there mind?

Kids were talking about looking for something they misplaced. Son said it's very aggravating when you look and look, can't find it, stick your hand into your pocket and there it is. Daughter responded, when you look and look, can't find it, then look in your hand and there it is. Daughter won that round.

Actually, I try to keep everything in its place. Usually once a project is finished, I go around and pic up all the tools, throw out the empty boxes and put everything back in its place. It usually takes a wasted day of looking for something to put me in the cleaning mood, but it does happen. Losing something right in front of me seems to be my biggest problem. Just used a wrench and cant find it. Knowing I havent even taken one step from where I used it last. Usually turns out I laid it down when I went to get a cup of coffee. Will find it right beside the coffee maker, of course I didnt leave it there, it somehow walked over there on its own.

Oh, those allen wrenchs where right beside the saw all the time, plain sight, that happens a lot too.

I have a teenage son. My stuff is usually awol. If I ask him to go get every tool I need for a project my anger stays at bay. He also gets to put them away every time. Good practice in family relations.

Another good one is when I am working on something really small, I wont lay it down because I know I will never find it. I was working on my tiller in the garden, I put the pin out of a small carb needle valve in my mouth so it would be real handy to get. Of course being a snuff dipper, I didnt think about the little pin when I went to spit. I raked the ground for 30 min trying to find that pin. Ended up paying $18 for another kit just to get the pin. This time I took the carb off the tiller and took it back to the shop to work on it. Had a buddy rebuilding a muncie 4speed. Dropped one of those needle bearing in the dirt and a chicken pecked it up and ran off. He followed that chicken around half a day until it took a poop and got the needle bearing back.
