Boy did I have fun today! Took down a 50 foot spruce, and had a blast. Kind of sad as it was a beautiful tree, but it was planted too near a house many moons ago.

Still smiling 6 hours later:D

Tom, I definatley agree. I love tree work dearly. I had just removed an 85' tall white ash yesterday, had a really good time. Woke up this morning though and after getting oriented I felt that my back was out of whack :( I have to go see my chiropractor tomorow morning to fix that, and then I am back to the job to remove a 60' tall white ash. On the good side, my buddy who has been helping me out has a positive attitude about the work we are doing. He learned the knots really fast, and finds the work to be interesting. My old ground guy took quite some time to learn the knots and he for some time did not care for doing tree work. Luckily he came to enjoy it as time went on.

Awh!!! I dont think sucking sawdust is that much fun.Although i do appricate the 'buzz' from a technically difficult removal.Maybe I'am just getting old or done too many removals.
It seems that many and various are the reasons to remove trees its a wonder that there are any left!!! Urban Tassie is pretty poorly treed and the bush(forest) is in a rapidly declining state.
Anyway....
I think the real joy in climbing is pruning or 'grooming' a large tree.
Iam in the process of climb, inspect, deadwood and lite thin an avenue of Enlish Elms (no DED in Tassie)in the main street of Ross.
See if you can find that on a map!
Iam finding it most enjoyable that mostly I am working in the 'shade' off these trees and that at the end of the day the shade remains.......

Hey Murph!

Yes i like making a beautiful picture with my saw too! i always say; "like painting with a chainsaw"!

And love testing of technical skills and theories in rigging (now who wood have guessed that!)

In fact, in summer in Florida, cutting out your own shade as day gets hotter is a stupid job!!! Shouldn't it be the other way around?

In fact, part of the reason i am so careful is so i can continue my passion. Do you realize how lucky we are to be fit enough to do these things; and how easy it would be to compromise all that?

I really agree 100%. I apprecciate the ability to do challenging removals, but personally I hate doing them.

I agree too. Infact the thing that I enjoy most is taking a tree that a customer wants removed that looks like hell and talking him into keeping it and letting me prune it for him with the promise that I will remove it for him if he still doesn't like it when I am done. This usually brings in more work from the neighbors and very seldom do I wind up removing the tree. I don't do this with every tree. (some frogs just can't be turned into a prince) but alot of ugly trees just need to have a bath!

When I was running a crew and selling, I would nly immidiatly agree to a removal if there were signs of decline in the plant. Otherwise I probe for reasons and try to speak for the tree (Advocati Di Arbor, Who knows the proper Latin form of that? I want to put it on my Biz Cards.).

"all it realy needs is some deadwooding, and directional pruning to keep it away from the house! We can do that for a quarter of what a removal would cost and you keep the shade. We get tthe dead out 3/4 inch and larger and you wont be doing anywhere nears the raking you are now! Okay we can get dead to 1/4 inch dia for $XXX. Sign here, please.
