Oh boy I sure can pick em. Maybe its me. Maybe I actually do attract low life forms. Maybe I even am a low life form. I don't know but I do know that after getting off the phone with this guy i wanted to slit my own throat.
I am looking for another company to fill in some days, a company that I can sub for and this guy was looking for some help. I didn't know the company name til later on.
Within the first few seconds of the phone conversation I realized this guy was looking for either some poor kid to back his truck up for him or some mexicans he don't have to pay very much but will break their backs.
Oh I told him all about The Dan. You know, what an awesome tree guy he is, always there when you need him, a real trooper. You know that sort of stuff. He was just baiting me the whole time with questions entirely designed to turn me off. So there was a lull in the conversation for a few seconds so i said" thanks for your time ####nuts and hung up".
The whole call lasted about 2 minutes. What an miserable sob. So what the hell, I sent him and email and he sends me one back, I can't even understand it cause he even spell jerk wrong. Jurke? I asked if he was serious with that and am still waiting for an answer. So I looked him up cause he sent me his name on a real email account back. Stupid. That is when I saw the name, i about dropped to the floor. I told him I would be up to take pictures.

I know some of you guys think I am totally nuts and while that may be a little true I don't go around trying to think I am better than anybody and look to put people down.
When I first moved to this area about 5 or 6 years ago( I don't remember exactly its all just a blurr) and before I went out and bought my own chipper and truck I hit the phone books and papers looking for work.
I called this one guy, Pupek Cutting Service ( I dunno, to each is own I guess, everybody deserves a chance I suppose). he was actaully looking to hire. He asked me what I could do. I said I could pretty much do anything that required doing. He says , in this horribly gruff voice, " Well I have heard that before". Well that was that. See, i did get kinda of upset, maybe The Dan is not the superhero he thinks he is and there just may be someone better than him. And I really don't expect to be paid if I don't do what I am supposed to do but I usually do what I am supposed to do... pretty dam well if I may say so dam it.
So anyway, later on I was driving down the road and saw him and his out taking down this stone dead oak... and this is what I saw.

I parked to watch this guy trying to jab this stick saw into this limb like this. He was trying to cut the tip so it wouldn't fall on the bushes.It didn't work, there is no way he could get a saw to make a horizontal cut when the saw is vertical. Hell, even I couldn't do that. So he sends that down and someone gives him a 20. A dull 20. So he just cut the limb off where he is standing and it falls and crushes the bushes.

This was actually a tricky tree. You would not want to tie into the center tips because it was so dead. It wasn't that big and someone with a crane would have TD'ed it in about a half hour. I knew I could ratchet strap 2x4's to the center lead real good and rig the tree down over the house on one side and the bushes on the other no problem just as well.
I guess I am saying " well, there is where I get my attitude sometimes"

Oh, i guess that does look kinda bad. Its his lanyard. I would have at least ditched the ladder and put a choker low on the big wood to tie in to.
The tree was little but a pita for sure. I feel kinda left out caue it should have been mine to chop down. At least let a guy who knows a little bit do it.
A neighbor's kid went to work for Pupek I am told. The kid was paid 10 bucks an hour to drive the bucket and go up in it while some drunk bums jerked off on the ground for him. Nice huh? The kids dad is a worker with a lot of pride so I know the poor kid got burnt when Pupek didn't even pay him all his money.

No , after he burned through the limb with his dull saw and crashed it on the shrubbery I had to leave. It was either that or I was going to get out, walk over and chop down the tree for him.

The green thing is a godam stick saw ! Yeah! A stick saw, trying to cut like that. It was 5 minutes I was watching that idiot try to cut that limb in that exact position. It was lie watching a guy walking across a tightrope. He had no balance and no real support. Real wing and a prayer type stuff. And he said " he heard it all before". That was the very first time I ever saw a supposed tree guy with any experiance try anything like that. I have seen some crazy nuts go full bore freeclimbing and tearing it up like there was no tommorow, I have seen some lazy ass mother####er put limb through houses and I know what its like to be real but I have never seen nobody try to do that... til then.
So now I know, and I am a little pissed off about it.

we have lots of those small busness arborists here. they all seem to drive old rusty pickup trucks like nissans and little fords. think they know everything about tree trimming and rigging.
jeeez, at least im humble enough to have someone else do the work that im not ready for. recently i just turned a job over to another tree trimming company because setting up a zippline over a pool was involved. i have no experience with zipplines and am pretty sure it goes beyond setting up a static rope between point A and point B.

I swear I am not embelishing with that pic I drew. That is exactly what the guy was doing. It was before I had a camera and actually took pics. I had seen this tree before they got to it and was hoping to be able to climb it myself.
I just had to stop and pull over to watch, at first I thought I was going to be privy to some fine talent and have the oppurtunity to watch some people with some. I left dissapointed and rather annoyed.
Now with Low Cost dude? Now there is your sweat shop. Really, up to a few years ago I thought only people who actually had pride took on tree work. I am not saying everbody was a CA and a Shigo nut but all of the people I met mostly put some kind of thought into it and was actually interested in doing good work. I knew there were guys who did small stuff like scavange for wood and such but I am amazed at the people who fool themselves into thinking half assed is the way to go and go find real trees to mess with.
