Started burning wood again (been 20 years) last weekend. Last night loaded the OWB before heading to bed. My wife told me she likes my new cologne. I told her it's called Smoky Oak Obsession..........

That's very similar to my wife's response after I fill our Hardy up, (I think).

She says you stink:) :) :)

Also figured out I didn't know how to spell or say similar...

:agree2: ,

Her: " Hey smokey, leave them clothes somewhere else, phew ".

smelling like smoke even irritates me. I sure hope my Lopi Liberty doesn't smoke, or its going on the auction block for a Quadrafire 5700. Can't wait to fire it, but my builders are taking their sweet time building my 36x60 garage.

Don't get an OWB then

Don't get an inside unit either; if you burn wood, you're going to have to deal with a little bit of a smoke smell. My basement has a very slight smoke smell to it, that is where my hotblast is.

My clothes will have a bit of a gasoline smell when I am done cutting up wood with my chainsaw. It is apart of the fun and assuming your kids are sound asleep (or don't have any), a good way to strip down and have a little fun with the wife :)

Yup...

I always smell like smoke after loading the furnace, and the house gets a slight smoke smell to it as well. My wife doesn't mind, as she grew up burning wood.

Does anyone else sniff their arm all the way to work in the morning after loading up???

I ask mine what she would rather smell, the smoke or the exhaust fumes from the propane truck...that usually shuts her up.

you can't win!

They are going to complain no matter what you do. So in the interest of mental health and personal happiness do what YOU want at least 50% of the time. In other words: If you can't make her happy, then make YOU happy! :givebeer:

After getting my first quality stove (Jotul Oslo) I have very little smoke in the house. Maybe a little smoke starting a fire, but haven’t done that in a month and a half – has not gone out. Open the doors slowly while feeding it and only my hands get a little smoke on them.

I can diagnose your smoke problems for you. You are not keeping your surface temp hot enough. I find 600F is about perfect for a surface temp before bed. This way you should not have any clothes on going to bed. No smelly clothes and she is burning wood… Good luck.

Once in a while we get a small whiff of smoke in the house. We do not have any lingering smoky odors of any kind.

Folks who visit do not even know we burn wood.

We try not to reload until nearly everything is coals, and we do keep the stack temp up.

If my surface temperature was at 600f I don't think I would have any clothes on either. Wouldn't they ignite at that temperature????:)

I have an old coat, gloves and a hood hanging on a nail on my garage wall. When I go out to the OWB I stop in the garage and put on my coat, hood and gloves before I get near the OWB. After attending to "Old Smokey" I stop in the garage and take off my stinky clothes and leave the smoke smell behind. Occasionally I will have some of the smell left on my face....but that usually washes off. On a rare occasion the smoke will blow down and get on my jeans - but that only happens when it is really windy outside.

No that's a shed! A little on the small side ;). You gonna heat that with the liberty? Put some R-30 in the rafters and insulate the walls and it should heat it-even where you live.
