mac motor tech question

i pulled the stuffer off the bottom of my 1-71 this evening. i'm short a puller, so i must wait to get the flywheel and clutch off so i can disassemble the rest of the motor.

at this point i have come up with two issues


i do not know what i'm looking for in relation to in and out of spec in regards to the rod. if someone knows this i would be very thankful to know it too..

also, the stuffer has a channel cut into it in the top part of the right side. i cannot determine what it's purpose is, but it seems like it could be related to the bar oiler.
