The following is just some thoughts and ideas... bla bla I am in no way promoting the following method, just bringing it to the discussion...CYA

How high does the boom/bucket on this thing extend?
is it a 'payloader' or an excavator/high hoe

if it's a high hoe, and the bucket reaches up but not high enough to 'crane' out a section without it doing a flip and busting up your head... can you tie into the bucket and be high enough to section the tree out, or can you 'rig' of the bucket sections as you would a typical removal?? and be tied into the tree, or bucket?

just thinking

Well? Did you get the tree down? How did you do it? And would you do it that way again?

Makeshift crane

Treeman 82,
First of all no one can see this tree as well as you can and I wasnt trying to sell you a lift. Sight eval is all of what good sence is about . I know that you do this every time you cut . It was just an Idea I got in my head from your discription . So try this one drill a hole through the base of the tree, put a chain that you can trust through it and tie it to the rest of the tree, cut carefuly through the spot , and lower the tree with the loader. there may be a lot of force on that bucket, but it will give you the chance to control the fall , If the chain holds up and the rotten trunk doesent yeild .... Just an Idea.. Ive never tried... Good luck
