Makita 520i muffler

Well you guys got me interested it a muffler mod on my Makita.The muffle outlet hole is already about the size of the exhaust port but cut out on three sides with the resulting flap bent back to act as a sort of deflector,partially blocking the opening.I'm wondering if just cutting off this flap would make any significant change.Anyone else modify this muffler?Thanks Ron
