90% sure my silver and red bottles say full synthetic on the back and of course it has fuel stabilizers too.

You might not be able to get the "dolmar" branded oils much longer depending on supply. I'm sure Makita will merge oil distribution together with parts just like they are doing with the Dolmar/Makita power equipment and parts. Current Makita oils are already full synthetic with fuel stabilizers. At least that is what I would assume since the bottle doesn't read synthetic blend or partial synthetic. I could be wrong though since it doesn't read "full synthetic". Its currently unknown who the oil producer is for makita and dolmar but the packaging is different. I would assume different producer/distributor which means different product. Others have brought up this before b/c we are wondering what kind of bar oil quality we are going to get in the future if makita switches its oil sourcing with the brand switch. Again all assumptions on my part and maybe Steve, Scott, or Nate know more??? @cuttinscott @166 @fordf150

I am pretty sure that Dolmar synthetic is made by spectrum. I like it. I was told the makita labeled one will still be the same oil but price might go up.

I went ahead with the 6100, anxious to find something to cut with it now. Probably won't be bringing wood in for another month or so. Might have to make some 8" firewood out of some stuff that's not split yet.

I don't have a lot to compare it to but it just feels like a well built saw. I know it's not lighter than the 5105 but it felt more comfortable to hold / better balanced. Maybe that just comes done to the powerhead / bar combo. The 5105 looked really nice too though.

Yes, the little shop is in Bobcaygeon, good guess. Tiny dealer, cash or cheque only but I think he had one of the better selection of Makita equipment that I've seen. Also came away with 2 bottles of the Dolmar oil that's mentioned above. He did the carb adjustments and went over the saw in detail including sharpening and chain tensioning. Probably basic stuff for everybody here but its nice to see it done in person, I usually just go to youtube to figure things out. He also mentioned that the next Makita saws will be going back to the old Dolmar colours, I guess a lot of people do not like the blue. I like the orange, but I also like that the Makita stuff looks a little different. If I lived a little closer I'd be getting all my stuff from that place.

I hope you have as good of an experience with your new 6100 as I have.

Thank You for the information and pictures @nstueve ! :)

I have NEVER seen Dolmar 2 stroke oil in that kind of packaging, must be due to different markets (Europe/USA).

Sorry to bother You, but what is the part number on those Dolmar bottles?
I can only make out xxx 100 100.
But I think those are not available in Europe anyway as the smallest packaging we have is 100mL, or 0.1Liter.

Great information, thanks again!
Cheers
Part numbers are
986 100 100 2.6oz
986 100 101 6.4oz
986 100 105 12.8oz

This is only in the US. Canada had slightly different sizes for liter vs gallon but was the same oil.

Dolmar and Makita oils are blended by Spectrum.

Oil pricing depends on programs and quantity. Makita pricing is close to Dolmar if you work the programs.

Congratulations on Your new saw! :)
But where are the pictures of the beauty?
First off, "it didn't happen if You don't post pictures and videos"!
Secondly, we don't know how that saw looks like and a picture says a thousand words! ;)

Thank You for the information @166 !

EDIT:
Just as I suspected, those part numbers are not valid at my current Dolmar stuff source (web shop).
I'll just stick to the regular Dolmar 2 stroke oil in a 1 Liter bottle.

That is too bad. I have run a fair bit and seems to be pretty good oil.

Speaking of 6100 and 421 newer saws... @166 @cuttinscott @MillerModSaws @

What RPM should we be setting to in the cut/wood?? 10,500-11,000??

I'm pretty good setting it by ear but usually end up on the rich end for newer saws. I know a little richer is better but don't want to be on the weak side by setting to rich.

Made a few cuts with the new saw on some pine and ash I had sitting around (we have lots of ash thanks to the emerald ash borer), the 6100 is fantastic. It cut through everything with no effort at all, a few pieces were probably in the 16" to 18" range. After the first few cuts I was thinking I would never use the DCS 34 again, but there is a bit more weight to the 6100 than I'm used to yet. I'm definitely starting to understand the idea behind having multiple saws and using the right one for the job, which I guess is the smallest one that can do the job properly . The 34 felt almost weightless after handling the 6100 for a while, perfect for all the small stuff. If I've done this right there should be a few pictures of the 6100 and then one of my growing fleet of blue saws.

Awesome pair. Two saws makes a lot of sense. That 6100 is such a great saw. Looks like it is serving you well.
