Rollacosta, The 'i' does stand for 'injection' but it's not what you think. Only the choke function is replaced by an injection of extra fuel though a circuit in the carb. The benefit is elimination of the choke plate.

the reason i switched to makita is because i have recently bought a brand new husky 3120 and it runs like a pile dung ,i have never been so disapointed in a new saw ,i wish i had bought the makita/dolmar 90cc saw instead..i also have a 388 runs ok nothing special..i think hand on heart my new makita 7900 will out cut a husky 385 any day hands down

Rolly, If you can outcut a 385 hands down you must have amazing dexterity with your feet. :p Actually I don't doubt that the 7900 will beat a 385. In big wood though my Husky 281XP with a 7pin sprocket is about as fast as the 7900with an 8 pin. In smaller stuff the 7900 beats it. This is NOT in any way a criticism of the 7900 just an observation about gearing.

sorry no pdf or picture ,but i will post some tommorow when i get the saw,i guess this is a veRy new/latest saw, this saw is more exspensive than the 6400 :dizzy: ..but i want a very light everyday saw..
but for now heres the speck sheet
engine 2 stroke
cubic capacity 50cc
bar size 45 cm
horsepower 3.8hp [din]
chain type 686/.325'' full chisel
chain gauge 1.5mm
tank capacity 0.47 litre
Ignition electic
power rateing 2,800w
net weight 5.1kg
has some other stuff /gumpf

what i cant work out is what the heck does the ' i ' in 5200i mean or stand
for ,just one other note the 5000 has more power out put than the 520 and the 5200i which are both 52 cc models ...are i just read the 5200i is 2 STROKE INJECTED

ROLLACOSTA you will be the first Arboristsite member(that does not work for Dolmar) to see & run a Dolmar (Makita) PS5000!

yeah i agree,3120s are pigdogs, the blue looks good as well.i dont want anyone confused that i may be using a husky :)

I just noticed it Rollacosta's picture that this saw lacks the decompression valve. Thats the first one ive seen without the "starting valve". Saws without the decompressor were rated at a tiny bit more hp, werent they? Not that it would probably be noticed in real world cutting, just curious.

The bar is for racing, but the "just for fun" kind. Neither the saw nor the sawyer need that bar.

PS 5000 and PS 4600

I just recieved a new Dolmar price list. It shows two versions of the 5000 (with and without heated handles), and a saw called PS 4600. The catalog did not show them though.....

This is typical U.S bureaucratic thinking-bureaucrats want to criticize the percentage of unburned hydrocarbons coming out while ignoring the total volume. Put a "smog pump" on a truck and cause it to use twice as much fuel and emit more noxious gas but the percentages of various exhaust components are now "acceptable"
...like I said in a previous thread, we keep electing the clowns that stuff this type of narrow minded nonsense down our throats to "save" us from ourselves. Kinda like a company I used to work for that would continually spend a dollar to save a few pennies. I chalk it up to some folks just having too much time on their hands. That and they have to justify their existence and their paychecks. Do I sound cynical? When it comes to this stuff, yup, I am.

John, It is a timing thing-I'm too broke in midwinter to splurge on a saw that I want but don't really need. Are you interested in a swap that includes an Alpina SP120?

The only place I've even seen them for sale here in Orlando, FL USA is the local Home Depot home centers tool rental dept., which offer NO parts or service support whatsoever. They do sell them both new and used. This latter is intriguing since they sell them out of their rental fleet after they have rented a set number of hours, regardless of condition. The chain is replaced for each rental, so is always sharp which should mean less wear and tear on the motor. The price is a song, something like $200 each for the 6400 used, as-is. New they are about $400, IIRC.

Anyone know anything about DOlmar models?

Hi,

I'm shopping around for a medium sized chainsaw, looking for a 16" bar, or possible a little bigger. Definately want a Dolmar.

Have an offer to get a reasonable condition Dolmar 123 with a 16" bar, or a brand new PS 52 with a 20".

Naturally new is prefered from a maintenance and reliability point of view, but it costs more.

Anyone in a position to comment on these 2 models and which is the better?

Cheers
