I have an old inherited Mall 2MG saw. My dad used it years ago. I am going to try and get it running for just the hell of it. Unfortunately the gas mix passed on with my dad.

Anybody know the formula?

If you can, try and post some pictures of the saw for us to see. I'd sure love to see one of them big old gear drive saws in action.

OMG! That was the first saw I was on. An old one with a 4' bar. I was working with a farmer and he needed some fence posts so we loaded that beast and picked a big old Tamarack about 3ft through. I was the outboard guy. We got the undercut done and just started the backcut when the tree just collapsed almost straight down. When the uproar subsided and I returned from the next county we examined the results. Saw was still chugging away but the bar had a perfect 90 degree bend in the middle. Tree was just a ring of about 4" wood with center rotten.

WOW!

Thanks for the swift response.

It never ceases to amaze me when it comes to what people will go through to put stuff on the internet.

As far as a picture goes...when I get it running, I'll try and squeeze it onto my scanner.

Thanks again all....

I have one and it runs, very loud because there is no muffler. I have an original owner's manual and can copy it if you want. The fuel:eek:il mix is either 16:1 or 10:1, I forget which. I'll check the manual and let you know. There is usually a plate riveted to the engine that lists the proper mix ratio.

There almost always was a plate on the saw in those days that gave ALL important information you could need about the saw. now they just give us stack after stack of papers with millions of different parts that are the basic thng you need but different. scary nowadays huh?

I use a high quality modern 2stroke oil designed to mix at 50/1, and mix it at 40/1 or 30/1. Never had any trouble. Picture is my Mall model 7 at Baraboo 2003.
