I currently own a lawn and landscape company and want to get into tree work. I always liked tree work. I don't want to go full time with it, but would like to make it a major part of my current business. I want to know what I am doing before I invest the $$$$$$$$$$ in equipment.

I am looking for someone who would be willing to train a climber in return for almost free labor during this summer. Would be able to work a few days a week in the summer. Even some tips in running a tree business would be great. I live in the Mt. Airy area. Prefer to drive less than 40 minutes to get to the shop.

I was a groundie for a small company when I was 14, working for free for experience. Currently able to run chippers, stump grinders, and chain saws. Also able to run bobcats, backhoes, dozers, excavators, etc. Also know some rigging used in rescue work for the Fire Department.

Hmm

I dunno

Training a competitor?

Business tips??

Don't want to travel more than 40mins???

I'm cynical, what's to gain for the business that trains you?????

I want to be completely honest with who ever hires me. I want them to know that I am not planning to stay. Which happens to much in the landscaping industry. Train the guy, only to quit and start out on their own. I hate that, had it happen to me twice. So thats why I am letting them know in the beginning what I want to do.

The business that trains me would gain some really cheap labor. Plus probably would get sub work for the jobs I couldn't handle until I got the big equipment.

Ekka- I said prefer to be less than 40 minutes. I didn't say I won't travel more that 40 minutes.

Yeah

I'm miles away but in a good spot to play the devils advocate.

Maybe you need to approach local tree companies in person, you never know there may be a smaller operator out there who could do with a hand and later you two could even help each other out.
