Actually as long as you keep it below 700F you should be fine. Metallurgical properties shouldn't change below that temperature.
There's a stark difference between a 325 degree temper, & a 450 degree temper.

700* would make it super soft.

Do you recall how much House Handle charged you for shipping?

I located a speciality handle but they didn't give me a quote at checkout.

I argued with them about the same thing. No where does it ever say anything about shipping charges. I would call them to confirm fees to your zip. The price was still reasonable in the end but I would pay for the "selected " wood . I bought a few file handles as well they were not centered in the handle. Unusable.

I called House Handle today.

To get one handle shipped from MO to MN was $6. For two handles is was 8.85. I'll probably try to get a couple grouped together before I order. Their system is all manual so you submit online order with CC payment, the lady at HH then calculates your order and charges you for goods plus shipping.

Also, has anyone installed a fiberglass replacement handle where you put it in then do the 2 part epoxy over the top? If so how does that work?

I've done them, & they're plenty secure.

The problem for me, is the fiberglass transfers a lot of vibes, & I hate that.

I would use a little heat from a small propane torch or hot air blower. Should be enough to weaken the epoxy so that it can easily be removed.
