Hi All,

Am finally considering a biggish saw for safer dropping of larger trees and for milling slabs.

Worst case will be dry, large gums. But predominantly green gums.

395XP is on my radar but am not sure what is the max it could handle and whether I should be looking for something bigger.

My Dolmar 7900 with 32" bar seems to be shrinking.

According to the 'tubes, the 395 is about 90cc, so is comparable to the Stihl 066, which is what I mill / fell with. I run a 30" hard-tip when felling, and a 42" .404 sprocket tip when milling, and the saw doesn't have a problem with either of those bars. If I needed (but I don't), I'd be willing to go longer, but I'd probably switch to a skip chain.

42" is probably a slighty unhappy max if milling dry gums (assuming the density is similar/same as Australian hardwood).

If you are buying new and saw prices are like ours. A 3120 is a better idea for milling (for not that much more $$ in comparison), but is harder to handle for felling..
