Just looking at Baileys site and came across these Max flow air filters. Are they worth it? How much, if any, difference do they make

couldnt get me to use them if i had a life time supply of them

Hi Docbar85. I presume you have quarter horses? Anyway I did buy the maxflow for the stihl 046. The filtration has been good but I don't know if it's worth 40 bucks. I didn't notice any drastic power gains honestly. The stock stihl HD air probably flows enough air to begin with so I don't know if the max flow is a real improvement. Not sure on what saw you have but if the air filter is the flat kind, then you would do better to upgarde to the HD style or maxflow. But if your saw already has the HD style filter, I would just open up the muffler, tune the carb and pull some chips.
Hope this helps. Fellow quarter horse man and chainsaw nerd,
Lucky

Yes I do have a couple of horses and that is where I got my user ID. You must know something about horses to pick up on that.
I have a 044 and the filter is not flat. How did you modify your muffler?

I made two oblong holes on either side of the muffler then welded 3/4 inch round tubing to the can. Rather crude I guess but it seemed to work. on the starter side there is little room fo rthe pipe so make sure the chain brake will still work when the pipe is installed. I may try and get a pick later today. If I can figure out that digital camera thing. Take it easy. Lucky
