Anyone got any idea what the max rpm on an ms180 should be?
Adjusted the one and only carb screw today in order to get it to tick over without conking out and while setting this at around 2800 rpm found that the saw actually maxed out at 15200 rpm.
by the way the saw was full of fuel and the air filter was immaculate
sounds a bit high for a consumer grade saw eh?

Mine was also running in the 15 range.........made a carb switch.
Sthil dealer here, drills out jet when one is running that fast (so he told me)

Try Amsoil Saber Pro at 70/1 or 80/1

That should do the trick.

Do you know how he did this? Are you saying he drilled out the jet with a plug? If so what did he do put a second screw in?

There are other posts about doing this for the 170/180 on AS. Generally a google search works better than the site search function

I would just swap on a Walbro WT215 carb that has the adjustable H/L jets. Very easy to do and combined with opening up the muffler a tad makes it a different saw. I can help if you're interested in what you need, I did mine in about 2 hours.
