I got 2 trees, I've found EAB on both of them. I'm just trying to make sure that's what it was, as neither of these are ash trees, and they're both less than 3 months planted. I just don't want 'em to die.

Thanks everyone, any help as always would be amazing.

Problem is not bugs or leaves, but it is in the roots. Click Buying and Planting and Mulching in the link below, and replant the trees correctly this fall.

Ok, so mulching isn't necessary? I didn't put any mulch down. Also, I think they look like they're planted correctly. I read the whole planting article, and I'm not sure, but they don't look wrong, maybe too deep, maybe. but we'll find out this fall. This will kill the tree?

Thanks again,

Jeff

Yes deep planting can kill the tree. Yes mulch is needed.

Find the flare and post a pic of it; you'll see.

Why did you think there were EAB around?

I agree with Treeseer that these trees (at least the maple) look planted too deep. It was hard to tell on the second tree. Both depth of planting and mulching are very important. These will translate to healthier plants able to combat the inevitable insects and pathogens that will come their way.

Found it, definately too deep. I'll lift it some in the fall. However, I know his soil is real sandy, could it be that it has/will settle some more?

I actually pulled EAB off both of the trees the day I took the pics. There were only maybe 30 or so on each tree, I couldn't get decent pics of them though, too bright for some reason. I did look up pics of EAB, and they looked identical to the bugs on the trees.

I'm thinking too deep is the ticket, does that make sense with the leaves that brown spotty like that?

Thanks,

Jeff
