I am looking for some repair advice on a saw my father brought to me this week. He owns a mc cullogh pro mac 655 (61 cc, 3,1 kW, manual oiler), which he uses only occasionally to cut some firewood.

Apparantly, he tightened the spark plug to heavy and has damaged the thread of the spark plug fitting in the cylinder head, so it doesn' fit tightly any longer.

Since our local dealer went out of business, can someone give me advice if the cylinder head can be repaired, and how I should do it?
Thanks for any advice.

PS. No offense to Mc Cullogh defenders, I hope, but this saw is in any aspect NO comparison to my Stihls ...

Gday Belgian,
Mate i shouldn't answer this on the grounds of your last line.

I feel that your up for a new cylinder assy on the PM655 or if your lucky you might be able to use a helicoil to effect this repair, there's been a few advertised on Ebay so watch there and you might be lucky to get a complete new short block assy Cheap.

I guess Belgian really wants no part of GirlyMen saws. ;)

Thanks guys,
I did not know of "helicoil" or "timeserts" repair tools. Will try to find a set in Europe.

Note to Ozflea : No wonder you guys have so much hair on your chests. This MC655 weighs only 8,1 kg, rendering it probably a saw with the worst power to weight ratio in its class....But I must admit its price was much lower too.
Hope the thunder remains downunder after this note, and thanks for your help.

One day the hole world will see the Glory, Halleluja

OK, Now you get it????
