Hi Newbie here. I've had this saw for 20 years and I need a new bar and chain for it. The McCulloch site says they are not available. Does anyone know of a substitute? Or any ideas?

TIA

Hey Chuck,

I've got a thirty year old (1980) ProMac 610 and have always run oregon bars and full chisel. That saw still runs great, but it can't keep up or even compare to my Husky's.

DANG! Just looked at Oregon's site and there's not a decent chain listed nor a promac 610...just the promac series. I'd shoot Oregon an email and see what they say: [email protected] <[email protected]>

Thanks, Tazman, I'll be looking into it.

You can walk into your local Lowes and buy a 20" Oregon bar and chain combo. For a 16" you have to look a little harder, but I picked up a new one on Ebay. Also, there are 24" and 28" OEMs still available if you want a longer bar.

Chain/Bar info

I have the same saw, a McCulloch ProMac 610 with a 16" bar. If you go to Oregonchain.com, you can get an easy selector guide for your saw. interestingly, if you select homeowner vs. professional, you get slightly different recommendations (more/less aggressive chains)

For the chain itself, the best deal was easily Amazon (with free shipping after adding items to reach $25)

I started using my "Oregon Chain Premium Vanguard 16-Inch Chain Saw Blade #D60" yesterday.

You will likely not find an Oregon D60 chain locally - neither Lowes and The Home Depot sell it.

Incidentally For the sprocket you have, the bulk chain from which they make the loop will likely be labeled "72" or "91" , stamped on the links. The D60 is a loop of "72"

I didn't try to get the bar/chain combo, which is probably your best deal.

Hate to drag this up but i need a B&C fer mine since my ex has them at her house

Bars for the 600 Series saws (605, 610, 650, etc.) will swap with the 10 Series saws (10-10, PM700/800 etc.) or Titans. Calvin may have something on hand or there are plent of choices on e-bay. Right now cheapchainsawparts has a bar & chain combo for $25 + shipping. Not my first choice of chain though with that Oregon with the folded over rakers.
